People have been asking if we’re holding a Black Friday sale at Asda this year – so our colleagues in the Press Office have responded in Mannequin Challenge style.

The video spoofs the footage you might have seen on news bulletins in 2014 when customers at our Wembley store rushed for bargain TVs on the morning of Black Friday.

Back in 2013 we were hailed for bringing the US phenomenon of Black Friday to the UK, saving savvy British customers millions on electrical appliances and homewares.

But last year we took the decision to step away from the Black Friday frenzy and focus on what our customers really want – everyday low prices and great deals instead of one-off flash sales.

We’re sticking with that approach this year – and the challenge for the Press Office was to find a new way of saying it.

So they decided to pop in to the Pudsey store and have a bit of fun with the Mannequin Challenge craze that’s been sweeping social media.

Russell Craig, Media Relations Director for Asda, said: "Last year we said that we were stepping away from Black Friday because, as much as we had developed a well organised and executed event the feedback from our customers was clear that they didn’t want the pressure of a ‘flash sale’ and preferred to know we were offering low prices throughout the festive season.

“There are only so many ways you can make that message interesting for people – so we decided to have a bit of fun this year and get some of our colleagues involved in a mannequin challenge that we hope will both amuse and inform.”
