Porter Paul Jones has been a popular figure at our Aberdare store since it opened in 1999 – becoming a firm favourite for his friendly personality and cheerful manner.

Paul, who's also a DJ in his spare time, says nothing is too much trouble – so he often carries shopping for customers or helps to load heavy items into their cars.

Recently he was nominated for an Asda Service Superstar award and was named Colleague of the Month.

Customers have been getting in touch with us to say just what Paul means to them.

Regular customer Diane Locke: "I'm so proud to hear Paul has achieved Colleague of the Month. Paul is so helpful both in and outside work. He always has a smile no matter how busy he is and has a heart of gold! Congratulations Paul, the award is so well deserved."

And Joanne Neads added: "Paul is a credit to Asda. He's always happy to help anyone. Congratulations, Paul."

Her comments were echoed by customer Adam Fox who said: "Paul is such an asset to Asda Aberdare. He is always helpful and friendly, taking time to chat and is always on hand to help with queries or questions that customers have. Nothing is too much trouble for him."

Paul said he was humbled by the comments and the award.

He said: "I love my daily chats with customers who I know personally. I also love helping and supporting our store as DJ Paul at long service celebrations, children's parties and at Christmas. I absolutely love my job."

Julie Cook, the store's community champion, says she's never heard anyone say a bad word about Paul.

She said: "Paul has such a big heart – he will do anything for anyone. He's always helping our customers; he's always thinking of others.

"He's so well respected by all our customers and he knows so many of them as he's been here since it opened. He really is part of the furniture.

"He's such a nice person who is fantastic at his job."

Lynneanne Griffiths, the store's customer service manager nominated Paul for the Asda Service Superstar award.

She said: "Paul is such a dedicated colleague who has an infectious smile even when the weather is poor – and we do have a lot of rain! He is an absolute credit to us.

"In his spare time he is a DJ and any events that are happening with the store Paul always volunteers and gives up his time to DJ, especially around Halloween and Christmas with the children's parties. Well done Paul and thank you."

And store manager Adam Thomas said: "Paul is an incredible colleague always supporting the store in terms of customer service. He also supports colleagues across the region by being our resident DJ at our annual long service awards. Thank you Paul."
