Six co-workers from our store joined 1,550 runners to take part in the Asda Foundation Grand East Anglia Run 10K fun fitness challenge in King's Lynn.

With a flat and fast course starting and finishing in the Tuesday Market Place, the wonderfully scenic route took in the pretty town centre, River Ouse pathway and The Walks. The runners also passed famous landmarks such as the Custom House, Red Mount and Greyfriars Tower along the way.

Our community champion Stephen, who took part in the run, said: "I'm always amazed by the effort that the members of the public go to in order to complete their run. To see the look of joy on people's faces as they cross the finish line, and sharing that moment with them, is a tremendous feeling. For many of us it was the first time we'd ever attempted a timed run."

The Asda Foundation has been a proud supporter of the Run For All 10K series since 2012. As well as sponsoring the 10K Series, which includes the City Of Lincoln 10k on Sunday 31st October, the Asda Foundation also supports marathon, 10-mile and half marathon events, including the Derby Half Marathon which has been postponed to Sunday November 28th because of the pandemic. Part of the lasting legacy of the late amateur athlete Jane Tomlinson CBE, the Asda Foundation Running Series is aimed at people of all abilities, whether they are a running veteran or have never taken part in an event before.

Stephen said: "As well as being enormously enjoyable for all involved, the events raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for some really worthwhile local good causes and charities. We look forward to seeing yet more people on the start lines at other events through the rest of 2021.”

The events could not happen without a team of volunteers - called 'Eventeers' - to give encouragement to participants out on the course as route marshals, manning drinks stations whilst helping to refuel runners or offering support in the event village.
