Our fabulous community champion Rachel has been presented with her British Empire Medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire at a ceremony in Winchester Great Hall.
Rachel, who was awarded the medal in the Queen's New Year Honours, said: "It’s been a real humbling experience listening to the citations about why everybody was receiving their awards. It really shows how the community comes together during a crisis and how people will always do things for others no matter what it takes and whatever sacrifices they have to make. It has been such a privilege to be able to work with some amazing groups over the past 18months. The contacts I have made during my role as community champion has meant that I’ve been able to reach out and support so many different groups and to find out how they have fought the fight against COVID-19. Of course we’re only as great as the people that support us and I couldn’t have done any of this without the support of my wonderful colleagues in the Gosport store and the dedicated Asda community champions across the South Coast region. We are all amazing and this award is for all of us and for everyone that takes the time to help others. I’m really proud of our little town and how great we are at supporting each other. I’m a true believer of Love Where You Live and the people of Gosport live and breathe this. I am truly humbled by this great honour."
