Doing the right thing is a central part of our Asda culture, so we care deeply about the relationships that we have with our suppliers and their experiences of trading and growing their business with us. As just one example, we have 14-day payment terms for all of our small suppliers, enabling them to manage their cash-flow better.
Every year, the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) asks our suppliers and those of other retailers to give us anonymous feedback on how they feel we operate under the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP).
I’m delighted to say that in this year’s survey results we’ve seen a significant improvement in the feedback on our business from suppliers. The results are a fantastic testament to the hard work that has gone into building stronger partnerships with suppliers, particularly our Commercial and Finance teams.
Below is a summary of our results. The survey shows that we’ve improved by 16% on last year’s results, we are ranked 2nd for how we conduct our supplier relationships and overall we’re 5th out of the 12 retailers in scope of the survey.
Summary of results:
We received responses from 740 Asda direct suppliers - a 50% increase from last year.
73% of Asda’s suppliers agree that we conduct our trading relationships fairly, in good faith and without duress. This places us second among the twelve retailers covered by the Code.
94% of Asda’s suppliers believe that we comply with the code ‘consistently well’ or ‘mostly well’.
While we’re pleased with the progress made, there’s always more we can do. We are carefully reviewing the findings and will look at how we can keep improving and build on the strong partnerships that we have with our suppliers.
