We know that the cost of living is a key concern of colleagues and customers. To help them get more from their budget we've dropped the qualifying period for colleague discount and have reinstated the 10% discount for Blue Light card holders in our stores.
From midnight tonight, customers who work in the NHS, Emergency Services, Social Services, Social care sector and armed forces, will be able to get 10% off their shop in all stores across the UK when they present their Blue Light Card.
This will include things like food and soft drinks, as well as George clothing, homeware, toys, gifts and optical purchases.
All that Blue Light card customers need to do to access the discount is present their card at checkout.
To further support our colleagues, we've also dropped the 12-week qualifying period for our Colleague Discount in stores and online until October 2022. This means that anyone joining Asda in any part of the business will be able to save 10% on their shopping from day one.
This benefit is worth around £400 a year with no cap on how much colleagues can spend using their discount card. We recruit around 2000 new starters each month, which would see an additional 24,000 colleagues benefit from the changes in 2022 alone.
We recently also announced changes to the hourly rate of pay for our shop floor colleagues, to provide further help and support. This will see them paid £10.10 per hour from July as well as having the opportunity to earn an annual bonus.
Hayley Tatum, Asda’s Chief People and Corporate Affairs Officer, said: “Family budgets are under huge pressure right now – with our Income Tracker showing household incomes down by £16 per week in March and set to fall further. Bringing back the Blue Light discount and removing the qualifying period for our own colleague discount are additional ways we can support our customers and colleagues, alongside our ongoing efforts to reduce prices and invest in our colleague pay.”
Tom Dalby, CEO at Blue Light Card, said: “We are really proud to be working with ASDA. With the cost of living on the rise, I hope this exclusive 10% discount helps families and individuals across the UK on everything from the big food shop to new school clothes. Asda has always done so much to show its appreciation to NHS staff and other frontline workers, and this partnership will support millions of blue light workers in the country.”
