Our fabulous colleague Joanne Hoben started work at our Brierley Hill store in Birmingham even before it opened ... and now she's celebrating 42 years there!
Joanne, who works in the cash office, said: "I started out on the shop floor stacking shelves when I was just 15 – I even had to go back to school for my exams and Asda gave me time off to do them. When I started in 1978 the store hadn't opened. It was empty – no shelves or anything!
"I saw an advert for a job as the new store was opening, went for an interview and got the job. I never thought I'd be here 42 years later. I'm now the only colleague left at the store who was there when it opened."
Joanne, who met her husband Tom at work 30 years ago, has worked in a number of departments and she's been in the cash office for 25 years.
She said: "There's been a lot of changes over the years, especially in the offices. There's a lot of computers now rather than manual work."
The store's manager Stephen Thomas says it's a "great pleasure" to work with Joanne, who always has "a smile for everyone".
He said: "She has worked across the store and has knowledge and passion which she shares with others. She is a fabulous role model."
