Our Elgin store's security guard Glen Fraser is always happy to help with a smile on his face – and when colleagues were asked to nominate someone who's gone above and beyond the call of duty in recent months his name came out on top.

In fact, he was nominated for an Asda service hero award by 11 of his colleagues.

Here are just a few of the comments they left to describe his fantastic customer service:

  • Glen is a reassuring face to have in our store. He maintains a safe environment for all, deals with all security issues efficiently and professionally. He always has a smile on his face. Well done Glen.

  • Glen, a massive thank you and well done for all the support over the last few months. From the way you have supported new colleagues in your team, to the FANTASTIC service you give every customer as they are counted in with your huge smile to greet them and lastly for the way you ensure our colleagues and stock are always safe in your hands.

  • Glen, you have been the ever present during this challenging period, even when you have had personal loss at home, you have been here controlling the front of the shop and ensuring social distancing is being adhered to throughout. And you always do it with a smile and a laugh.

  • Glen, you have undoubtedly gone above and beyond.

Store deputy manager David Philips said: "Nothing is too much for Glen to be honest. He regularly goes out of his way for people and he's got a very good rapport with customers. He's warm, friendly and always has a smile on his face. He's got excellent customer service.

"During the pandemic he's helped keep everything under control. He's been a key figure for the store. He's changed shifts at short notice and come in on days off ... and even if he's not here he's always aware of what's going on within the store. He's been a great support to the management."

A very modest Glen, who's been at the store for two years, said: "I was quite shocked and surprised by all the nominations, but I'm just doing my job. It doesn't matter what supermarket or superstore you are working in, everyone has been outstanding through this pandemic.

"I enjoy all parts of my job. I get on great with all the colleagues here and we've also got some really nice customers here at Elgin too."
