Annette Gregory from our Barrhead store has become a local celebrity and social media star after making a series of funny videos to lift people's spirits.

Sixty-five-year-old Annette, who's been at the store since it opened seven years ago, first started filming the comedy skits from the balcony of her flat and posting on Facebook while she was shielding during lockdown.

She said: "We are a pretty tight team in George – we call ourselves the Georgettes – and I was missing them during lockdown so I thought this will give them a wee laugh! I just thought I'd film myself doing a Glaswegian woman's take on life.

"My hero is a Scottish comedian called Dorothy Paul, who used to do a one-woman show where she would dress up as a cleaner and just talk, and I thought I's just do something like that.

"My colleagues then they started showing it in the canteen and it went from there really. All my colleagues love them. They think there are great. I was shielding due to blood cancer and the messages of support I received was just fantastic.

"I've now had messages from all over the world – Israel, Budapest, America, everywhere! It's probably down to my friends sharing it with relatives overseas. I'm absolutely astounded by how it's taken off."

Annette says she intended to make her funny videos just in lockdown but due to the response she's had from people she's going to continue.

She said: "If I've got something funny to say I'll put one on."

Since she's returned to work, she's become something of a local celebrity too, with customers often quoting lines from her videos back to her.

She said: “I’ve have customers coming in, asking if I’m the ‘balcony woman,’ while some just come and say hello and ask when I will be putting another one on."

Store manager Colette McClusky says colleagues and customers just love the videos. She said: "Annette is a big personality and character in the store and now she's become a mini celebrity!

"We all love her funny videos. She was just bored and thought she'd give the guys at work a bit of a laugh."
