Our Belfast Westwood store's community champion Noeleen McMahon teamed up with the kind pupils from St Kevin’s Primary School to write personalised Christmas cards for people living in a local nursing home – and the residents like Lynn, pictured here, were overjoyed to receive them.

As well as the Christmas cards, each resident at Brooklands Nursing Home will receive a festive party bag for the home’s celebration.

Noeleen said: "My colleagues and I just thought it would be a lovely thing to do to brighten up the Christmas period for the residents.

"The personalisation of the cards really brings a more sentimental value to the gift – we hope the residents love their little keepsake from a Christmas like no other!"

Trisha Browne from the nursing home said: “We couldn’t wait any longer, so we showed a couple of our residents their Christmas cards early – there honestly wasn’t a dry eye in the house! They were so delighted to receive something so kind and thoughtful.

"We can’t thank Noeleen and Asda Westwood enough for all their support and generosity to Brooklands Nursing Home."

Noeleen delivered crayons, books and markers to help the children make the Christmas cards extra special for their recipients.

Fiona Keegan, principal of St Kevin’s Primary School, said: "The children in St Kevin's were delighted to take part in this wonderful project. They really enjoyed writing the cards knowing that they would bring joy and comfort to the residents.

"This has been a great way to connect two generations in these times of uncertainty and loneliness. We wish all of the residents a very happy Christmas."
