Eunice's friends at Asda Derby help her celebrate her 100th birthday in style
Happy 100th birthday to our much-loved customer Eunice Dring who has been a regular customer at our Derby store since it opened 39 years ago.
When the store's community champion Debbie Jones found out about her special day she pulled out all the stops and arranged a cake, flowers, balloons and a card signed by her friends at Asda.
Debbie said: "We just wanted to do something special for Eunice as she's so lovely and it's such a special occasion. She used to come in once a week for her shopping and was always served by our colleague Linda Wilson, who called her her adopted mum!
"Everyone at the store hopes Eunice had a lovely day and we were only too happy to be part of her big day."
Eunice's granddaughter Linda Stevenson says her nan went to Asda once a week on a Saturday, and has missed not being able to go over the last few months.
Linda said: "She loved going to Asda – it was the highlight of her week. She talked to all the colleagues in there – everyone knew her. When I asked her what would be really nice for her birthday she said a card from Asda – so I thought I'd see what I could do."
Linda called into the store and was put in touch which Debbie, who got the ball rolling.
Linda said: "Debbie was absolutely brilliant. Straight away she said: 'Yes, let's do something'. It was such an amazing gesture. You don't get things like this anymore.
"My nan wasn't bothered about her card from the Queen just as long as she got one from Asda! She was absolutely thrilled by all the kind gifts."
Eunice, who has two daughters, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, is planning to enjoy a birthday tea of fish and chips out of paper.
Family members popped round one at a time to wave to her through the patio doors and they will hold a party for her in the summer once the Covid restrictions have relaxed.
Eunice, who's a big Derby County fan, also received a shirt signed by the players.
