Brian McPherson joined Asda on a six-week placement from school when he was 15 ... and now he's just celebrated 43 years with us!

Brian, who's now 58, started out at our Kirkton store in Dundee, before moving across the city to our Milton store before switching to Asda Dundee West six year ago.

He's known for his practical jokes and sense of humour – and that's how he wooed his wife Kate, who's an admin colleague at our Dundee West store.

Brian said: "I do like my jokes, but it's nothing too serious! Kate was in the smoke room at Milton and I decided to hide her shoe! We got talking, we went out and never looked back."

The couple, who have worked together for more than 30 years, got married in 2005 only a few months after they first started going out. Between them they have five children, 12 grand-children and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way!

Brian, who works in our ambient department, said the 43 years at Asda had "flown by".

He said: "I can't believe I was a young laddie of 15 years when I started. Lots has changed but I can honestly say it's been a blast!

"My colleagues are very good and I've met a lot of friends over the years. I'm quite a happy person and always happy to chat to the customers too – they are what make the store and I've got to know quite a lot of the regulars over the years."

Kate, who's worked for Asda for 34 years, said: "Brian is such a good guy and he loves his jokes! The only thing wrong with him is he supports Rangers and not Dundee United!

"At home he loves his gardening and being with the kids. My great grand-daughter just dotes on him!"

Customer trading manager Kelly McCash said: "Brian is such a popular, hardworking colleague who will always go the extra mile for customers and colleagues. He's such a funny guy too and loves his practical jokes!

"Working for Asda for 43 years is a great achievement and we are all proud of him."
