Congratulations to Asda Ashington newlyweds Lynn and Ray

Congratulations to popular colleagues Lynn Berrett and Ray Weatherley from our Ashington store who have finally tied the knot after 27 years together.

Fifty-eight-year-old Lynn, who works on checkouts, and shop floor worker Ray, who's 66, married at Morpeth Town Hall followed by a church blessing and reception at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea which was attended by a number of colleagues including Lynn's best friend, front-end colleague Alison Van.

The couple met first met when they worked together in the south of England, before deciding to head to the North East in 2013. Lynn joined the Ashington store that year, while Ray started work at our Cramlington branch before teaming up with Lynn in Ashington in 2015.

Lynn, who's a member of 1st Newbiggin-by-the-Sea Girls Brigade, said: "We'd talked about getting married for years but, for one reason or another we never go round to it and then when it was a leap year in 2020 I asked him ... and then Covid came along."

She says the Ashington store, where they both have part-time positions, is a very friendly place with a real family feel to it.

Lynn said: "I love it on checkout – they are really good bunch here. They are friends, rather than colleagues."

The store's community champion Amanda Sheldon says everyone at the store is delighted for Lynn and Ray.

She said: "We'd like to say huge congratulations to them and wish both of them many years of love and happiness."
