Happy 40th wedding anniversary to Asda colleagues Mike and Lynne
Congratulations to Lynne and Mike Waller from our Mount Pleasant store in Hull who are celebrating their ruby wedding.
The couple have worked together at the store since 2010, with Lynne working on checkouts and Mike as a security colleague.
They have five sons and seven grandchildren, and working at Asda has been a real family affair, with six different members of the family working with us at various stages.
Mike said: "It's absolutely great working together, but the funny thing is how many people don't realise we're a couple. Lynne has some regular customers who always come to her till and have a bit of a chat, and some of them after hearing it was our ruby wedding have introduced themselves to me and wished us well, which is really nice of them.
"We both love everything about working at Asda – the camaraderie, banter, and customers – and it's a pleasure to be here."
It was love at first sight for Mike who's 62, and Lynne, when they met on a night out in Hull – and they were married less than three months later. Mike spent 22 years in the Royal Air Force before joining Asda. He initially started at our Hessle Road store, before joining Lynne at Asda Mount Pleasant shortly after she started.
Mike said: "We knew we were right for each other straight away and were married within 11 weeks. Now 40 years later with five sons and seven grandchildren we're still going from strength to strength!"
It's been a busy few weeks for Mike and Lynne, as she celebrated her 60th birthday in February, when colleagues organised a collection for her, wished her many happy returns over the Tannoy, and decorated her checkout.
Mike said: "It's things like that which mean so much and make it a real privilege to work here."
The store's community champion Sarah Cranswick wished the couple a very happy 40th wedding anniversary. She said: "Congratulations to Lynne and Mike! Forty years is such an impressive milestone. Lynne started at Asda in 2010 and was followed by Mike just a few weeks later and they've worked together as a married couple ever since. We all hope they had a wonderful day."
