A big well done and thank you to Martin McCullagh from our Coventry store who has just donated his 50th pint of blood.

Blood donor Martin McCullagh from Asda Coventry

Martin, who's 59 and works in the store's warehouse, received a Thank You Blood and Transplant gold card and a certificate for his amazing support for the NHS.

He said: "I've been giving blood three or four times a year now for more than 10 years. I'd read that giving blood could save a child's life and, as me and my wife Michelle were unfortunately not able to have children, I thought I would give blood.

"I usually give blood at the Annex building in Coventry after I've finished work. They all know me there and say, 'He's back again!'

"I give a pint of blood every time I go and I'm usually there about half an hour. It's very worthwhile.

"I'm really honoured to have received my certificate for reaching my 50 pint milestone – the next one is 75 pints and I hope to achieve that before I retire."

He said colleagues at the store, where he's worked since November, have been very supportive, as has Michelle, who has worked at Asda Derby for 27 years.

Martin said: "They've all been coming up to me and saying well done and congratulations. It's nice to get recognition."

Asda Coventry's community champion Lynda Cole said the whole store was proud of Martin.

She said: How inspirational is he? It's so important that there are people like him donating blood – who knows, it could save a life."
