Caring porter Robert delivers patio set to recently widowed elderly woman
A big thank you to porter Robert Anderson from our Burgh Heath store in Surrey who delivered a patio set to an elderly customer's home in his own time and then set it up for her too.
Robert, who turns 80 in November, has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award for his act of kindness.
Christopher Fawn, who was store manager at the time, said: "Whilst working in the car park he noticed an elderly lady struggling to get a patio set into her car. He went over to help and when he realised it would not fit in her car he offered to drop it off to her house when he finished his shift.
"He was good to his word and delivered it to the customer's house which was three miles in the opposite direction to his own house. When he arrived he asked the lady who would be putting it together and she said she would as she'd recently been widowed. Robert then offered to set the patio set up and so spent an hour at the house doing this.
"What’s so great about this is that Robert did all this off his own back and never told anyone.
"Robert has the most amazing attitude and takes pride in his job from collecting trolleys to cleaning up the recycling centre."
Rachel Anderson, (no relation) the store's operations manager, said: "Robert's such a popular and well thought of character in the store. He's aways talking to customers and helping them when he can.
"I was in the car park on a break when he went to help this lady, who's a regular with us, and she was chuffed to bits."
