"He greets you with the biggest smile and can make your darkest day brighter" – that's what one customer said about our fantastic colleague George Taylor who's always happy to spread some Christmas cheer at our Girvan supermarket.

Fifty-six-year-old George, who started working for Asda in 2013, recently won a regional Asda service superstar award for his excellent customer service.

And customers are forever getting in touch with the store to say positive things about George.

Here are just a few of the comments we've received:

"George has the best customer service I've seen in the market place. He greets you with the biggest smile and can make your darkest day brighter. He is so attentive and makes you feel that bit special."

"George has a great personality. He makes everyone's day. Many people say they can go into Asda feeling really fed up with life and George cheers them up. He's an asset to Asda Girvan. He goes out of his way to help in anyway he can."

"His cheery, friendly face brightens up my day when shopping in Asda."

"He is happy, welcoming and friendly. He's always happy to see everyone."

But George, who works as a service host as well as on checkouts and the customer service desk, takes all the compliments in his stride.

He said: "I was absolutely delighted and amazed to receive the award. I was chuffed to bits, but I just come in and do my job.

"I love meeting all the customers and the wee kids when they come in – you see them growing up and you say to them 'where did the height come from?'

"Girvan is a small town so everybody knows me and I know them. It's a great shop and it's great to see everyone when they come in. I have great banter with the colleagues too.

"Folks always say to me that I've always got a smile on my face. I like people and I can't help that; it's a good trait to have."

In his spare time, George loves the great outdoors – going pike fishing, hill walking and kayaking.

Store manager Joanne Wallace said: "George is absolutely amazing; everyone loves him here.

"He's forever getting positive feedback from customers who say he cheers them up when they see him. He lives in the town so is very well known.

"We are all so proud of him. He absolutely loves his job, he's so happy. I've never ever worked with anyone like George before – he's just fab!"
