Seven-year-old Summer Best has been busy supporting her local food banks this Christmas – so when her mum Rachel contacted community champion Donna Kitto from our Wythenshawe store for a donation she was only too happy to help.

She invited Rachel, Summer and her six-year-old sister Georgie into the store to collect a trolley load of groceries for the Bideford Centre and while they were in store colleagues clubbed together to buy more items too.

Donna said: "Summer really is an inspiration; I wish more people could be like her. She and her family have been appealing through social media and have managed to collect donations from her local community which have gone to food banks.

"They have worked super-hard in the community in the run up to Christmas to help as many people as possible.

"Summer was excited to have a go at scanning items on the checkouts in the store and worked hard to process the store donation with me too. I then met with Summer and her family to deliver the items to Kirsty Taylor who runs the Bideford Centre and she was over the moon."

Rachel said: "I just want to say a massive thank you to Donna and everyone who has supported Summer's Christmas mission. What an amazing community we live in! We couldn’t have done it without our family, friends, work colleagues, people we have never met, and these amazing local businesses who have been so kind.

"I’m honestly so overwhelmed. Everyone has come together to help tackle food poverty this Christmas. Summer's mission was to ensure she can help as many people have nice food and goodies at Christmas."
