Jackie from Asda Newton Mearns goes extra mile to help recent widower
Thank you to Jackie Kelly from our Newton Mearns store who went out of her way to help a customer after learning that his wife had passed away.
Jackie initially helped the customer, who's in his 70s, order a tie online which he needed for the funeral, before personally delivering it to his home and stopping for a chat with him. She then returned to see him again on Christmas Eve, dropping off a hamper of festive treats.
Store manager Lisa Sandhu said: "The gentleman came in looking for a tie which we didn’t stock and asked Jackie for help in ordering online as he didn’t know how to do it. As Jackie ordered it for him on her phone, it transpired that his wife had recently passed away and he wanted a nice tie for the funeral. Jackie offered to deliver it to him when it arrived and he was very grateful."
Service section leader Jackie, who's worked at the store for six years, dropped it off a few days later and the customer invited her in for a chat.
Lisa said: "He told her that it was only him, his wife and the dog that had lived in the house and so Jackie spent some time with him. She later made him up a Christmas hamper and dropped it off to him on Christmas Eve so he would have some nice goodies through the festive period. She really has a heart of gold."
Lisa, who nominated Jackie for an Asda service superstar award, says the whole store is proud of her.
She said: "A huge well done to Jackie, who really did go above and beyond for this customer. Asda just isn’t a place to shop. It’s a community where people can come and open up and ask for help and we are only too happy to step in and give that help."
