Superstar Les from Belfast Shore Road celebrates 30 years of service with Asda
A huge thank you to Les Kerr from our Shore Road store in Belfast who's celebrating 30 years of service at the store.
Les, who's 57, is well known for always having a smile on his face and willingness to offer a listening ear for customers and colleagues. He started as a cleaner before becoming a grocery colleague.
He said: “I remember starting my first shift like it was yesterday! Over the past 30 years, I have seen a lot of changes happening at the store and also been able to progress in my career. I really love my job as a grocery colleague.
“My favourite part of the role is the friends you make along the way. Every day is different, but I have been so lucky to have a family here at Asda. My colleagues are just fantastic, and I have made so many good friends.”
Les has also played his part in the store's fundraising efforts, as well as doing his bit to support the community.
He said: “One of my most cherished memories is when my colleagues and I came together to raise vital funds for BBC Children in Need. We held bucket collections in store and raised over £13,000 for the charity – definitely one of my proudest achievements!”
The Shore Road team organised a celebration with tea, cake and pastries before store manager, Rodger Croskery presented Les with a card and gift voucher to celebrate his 30 years of service.
Rodger said: “Les always has a smile on his face and you’ll always see him chatting to our customers and doing all he can to help. We are so proud of Les, and he is a much-loved member of our team at Asda Shore Road. Thank you, Les!”
The store's community champion Robyn Haslett said: "He is such a key worker and always going the extra mile for everyone! Les is such a huge aspect of our store ... our superstar!"
Les plans to retire next year, but says he will always have a place in his heart for Asda.
He said: “I’ve got to know my colleagues and customers so well over the years and I look forward to coming to work every day. It’s been a real pleasure to work at Asda Shore Road – I’ll never be a stranger even after I retire!”
