Community group thanks Angie from Asda Blackpool for making a difference in the local area
Our Blackpool store's community champion Angie Parkinson is proud to help many different good causes in the town – so she was really touched when one of the groups she works closely with got in touch to thank her for her amazing work.
Karen Coope, from The Hub, pictured here with Angie, wrote to the store to thank Angie for all the help she gives, which she says makes "a remarkable difference to our community".
Karen said: "Of all the supermarkets in our local area, she is the only community champion we regularly see. Not only is she visible, but she is actively involved.
"She takes the time to listen and genuinely understand the work we do, and she is always the first to step forward and help – whether that means joining us for litter picking in the park, rolling up her sleeves for hands-on work, or supporting whatever else is needed at the time. Her support goes far beyond presence alone.
"She regularly brings items for our baby bank, as well as tea and coffee for the many brews we make while welcoming and supporting members of our community. These thoughtful gestures mean a great deal both to our volunteers and the people who rely on our services."
Karen said Angie had also helped them get a number of grants from the Asda Foundation which enabled them to install an extraction fan system in the kitchen, purchase a new shed for their community garden, and bring people together through two community parties — one for older members of the community and another for the families who attend The Hub.
"Her commitment, kindness, and willingness to get involved truly set her apart," said Karen. "She represents your store in the very best way, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have her support. Thank you for employing someone who so clearly embodies community spirit and makes such a meaningful difference."
Angie, who has lived in Blackpool for 50 years, has been nominated for an Asda service superstar award for all the work she does in the community.
She said: "Working as a community champion has been one of the most rewarding roles I’ve had. Over the past three years, I’ve genuinely loved coming to work knowing that no two days are ever the same.
"The variety keeps the role fresh and engaging, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to make a positive difference in the local community. A part of that has been working with The Hub and Karen. It's a fantastic community centre that does so much good, and being able to support their work has been something I’m really proud of. It meant a lot to receive such a kind letter from Karen and to know that the effort I put in is appreciated and has a real impact on the local community.
"Alongside this, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of local groups including schools, food banks, sports teams, and volunteer organisations.
"Being involved with these groups has allowed me to see first-hand the difference community support can make, whether it’s helping families in need, supporting young people, or bringing people together through sport and shared activities. Overall, I feel lucky to be in a role where I can engage with people, support the community, and continue learning every day."
Store manager Will McCarthy said: "Angie is an outstanding community colleague whose dedication shines far beyond her role here at Asda Blackpool.
"She consistently goes the extra mile, reaching out to a wide range of local groups to provide both financial and/or personal support and does it with warmth and genuine care. Angie's efforts help to create a stronger, vibrant and more connected community and this is seen in the many emails and letters I receive about her passion, commitment and selflessness.
"Angie is a fantastic colleague and we at Asda Blackpool, alongside the community of Blackpool, are blessed to have her working with us."
