Harry from Asda Lancing pushes customer home when their mobility scooter breaks down
When an Asda customer's mobility scooter broke down on a shopping visit to Asda Lancing in West Sussex 20-year-old Asda worker Harry Jervis stepped in to help – pushing the 70-year-old gentleman home himself.
At first, Harry and his colleagues thought the customer's scooter's battery just needed charging, so gave him one of the store's own mobility scooters to use while his charged.
Harry said: "After about 15 to 20 minutes of charge it still didn't work. I offered to get the gentleman a taxi home, but I don't think he wanted to leave his scooter, so I said I'd push him. He didn't live too far away – about a ten-minute walk.
"I pushed and he steered! It wasn't too heavy as luckily he didn't have too many shopping bags with him. It was a hot day though and I was sweating by the time we'd got to his house!"
Harry says the customer appreciated his help and was going to call an engineer to take a look at the scooter after he'd left.
"He shook my hand when we got there; he was very grateful," said Harry.
"With all the doom and gloom in the world it's nice to do something positive for someone."
Harry's kindness earns him an Asda service superstar nomination
Asda Lancing store manager Sally Yilmaz was so impressed by Harry's kindness – particularly on such a hot day – that she has nominated him for an Asda service superstar award.
Sally said: "Harry was determined to get the gentleman home so he pushed him himself. It was about two roads away from the store. He said it was a bit tricky, but he managed it, bless him. The gentleman was very grateful.
"Harry is a really great member of the team and always goes above and beyond for customers and colleagues. Nothing is ever too much for him. He always gives great customer service."
