There were smiles all round when members of St Michael's 31st Scouts popped into our Westwood store to pick up a cheque for £500 after winning our latest green token customer vote.
The store's community champion Noeleen McMahon, who presented the cheque, said: “St Michael’s 31st Scouts makes a real difference to the lives of young people living in our community. I’m so proud that my role as an Asda community champion – alongside the support of the Asda Foundation – enables me to play a significant role in helping St Michael’s expand and further the amazing work they do!”
Gareth Clarke, group leader of the Scout troop, said: “We owe a massive thank you to Asda Westwood shoppers for our £500 donation. The money will help fund our exciting summer camp programme and enable us to plan Scouting trips across Ireland and beyond – something our members really look forward to.
“Through our get-togethers and activities, we encourage young people to get active and spend time outdoors. They can develop new life and practical skills such as first aid, survival, cooking.
“Our members get the opportunity to forge long lasting friendships and experience adventures, camping in places they may not normally be able to go to – so the financial boost from the Asda Foundation is truly amazing!”
Founded in 1983, St Michael’s has been an integral part of the community for many years, working with over 60 boys and girls aged between 6 and 21. The team at St Michael’s supports young people from West Belfast, giving them the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and encourage members to learn new skills.
