Thank you to all the customers who support local good causes in our St Austell store by taking part in our Green Token Giving scheme – helping charities like Cornwall Hospice Care.
They're a charity particularly close to the heart of our colleague Sharon Cocks and her family – and they raised £1,400 for them at a charity evening as well as helping them receive £500 through customers' green token votes in the store.
Sharon, who works in the George department, has worked at the store for ten years and joined community champion Dee Standfield to hand over the £500 Green Token Giving cheque to the hospice.
Sharon said: "My father-in-law Desmond had cancer and passed away eight years ago. He spent his last few days in Cornwall Hospice Care and and they were fabulous, absolutely brilliant – not just with him but with us as a family as well.
"Ever since then as a family we've done bits and pieces to raise money for the hospice, and earlier this year we held an entertainment event at Mount Charles Social Club featuring a raffle and music and raised £1,400 for them.
"I then approached Dee to see if we could nominate them as one of the good causes for our latest Green Token Giving vote. It was great when they won the £500 and I would like to thank all of our customers who voted."
Sharon and her family are currently planning another fundraising event for the Hospice to be held on April 21st next year.
Paul Brinsley, chief executive of Cornwall Hospice Care, said: "We're delighted to have the support of our local Asda here in St Austell. The hospice works very closely with businesses in the community and we are very fortunate for this support along with that of Asda's customers.
"These funds will go directly to caring for our patients and supporting their loved ones, all of whom are dealing with terminal illnesses."
Nominate a good cause to feature in the store's Green Token Giving scheme by completing the form on the store's page here or asking for Dee at the customer services desk.
