Belfast charity receives surprise £5,000 Asda Foundation donation
A Belfast charity which offers a telephone befriending service for the elderly was delighted to receive a surprise £5,000 donation from the Asda Foundation.
Our Westwood store's community champion Noeleen McMahon presented Good Morning Colin with the grant at their Christmas party, which was held in January after the original event was cancelled because of bad weather.
Noeleen regularly volunteers with the group and the money will help pay for day trips for service users.
Isobel Flood, Good Morning Colin coordinator, said: "I was so surprised when Noeleen revealed the donation of £5,000 - it really was amazing!
"We operate 365 days of the year to ensure each of our 350 plus service users have the support they need from Good Morning Colin – and the extra funds will make a big difference to our organisation.
"Often those we work with struggle to get out of the house or have no friends or family living nearby so rely on our 23 volunteers to ease loneliness and isolation. The donation will enable us to organise day trips in the year ahead for the group, and we will also set some aside for our Christmas hamper delivery later this year."
Noeleen said: "It was a real honour to present the surprise donation to Good Morning Colin. It is a fantastic organisation, and I really enjoy working with Isobel and the volunteers."
