Elizabeth celebrates NHS's 70th birthday with friends old and new
Our Toryglen store's community champion Elizabeth Arbuckle joined NHS staff and patients at New Victoria Hospital to celebrate the NHS's 70th birthday – with a special friend she knows well from her community work.
Elizabeth helped out at the hospital's party where guests enjoyed cake and refreshments, and she was delighted to celebrate with Jimmy Dickie who she used to work with on the Aitkenhead Crime Prevention Panel.
Elizabeth said: "Jimmy and I worked together for 18 years, organising so many events and working hard to make our community a better place for all.
"Over a year ago Jimmy was taken unwell, and has been in and out of hospital. We have built up such a great relationship over the years, and I have been able to visit him from time to time.
"He is always so delighted to see me and we talk about all the things we have done in the past, and what a great team we made. I was so delighted when Jimmy was moved to ward one at the hospital which meant he would be at the party.
"This is what makes my job so special and so worthwhile – after 18 years of working together we were able to celebrate together.
"The afternoon was organised by Joanne Gourlay, one of the amazing NHS staff, and we helped make the day even bigger and better. We went back in time with old fashioned teapots and cups, and had the best day ever.
"We would like to say a massive happy birthday to our beloved NHS - thank you for being there for us."
