How we ensure our fresh produce reaches you in tip-top condition

We source all our fresh produce through our international supplier network IPL (International Procurement and Logistics).

Their technical teams work closely with individual producers and growers around the world.

They offer training and advice to farmers and growers, carry out quality checks, and ensure our fruit and veg is ethically and sustainably sourced.

When the fruit and veg are ripe and ready for harvesting they’re picked, packed and shipped as quickly as possible so they reach you in peak condition – usually within a few days.

Each and every piece of fruit and veg is carefully transported from the farm where it’s grown. You can read more here about the incredible effort that goes into growing, harvesting and getting bananas to you.

The majority of our fruit and veg is grown as naturally as possible. We prefer to allow wildlife to pollenate and live in their natural habitat and we keep the pesticides to a bare minimum.

We go to great lengths to make sure our produce is washed after harvesting but you may still find the odd creepy crawly in your broccoli, lettuce, grapes or bananas.

Understandably some customers find this upsetting but we really do our best to make sure there are no unwanted visitors on your fresh fruit and veg.

We fully investigate queries and, in instances where spiders are found, we work with natural history experts to identify the species.

It’s impossible to identify a spider by sight or photographs alone – it must be done by dissection which is why we ask customers to return the spider and the packaging to store.

If you do find an unwanted creepy crawly in any fresh produce you buy at Asda please contact our Customer Services team on 0800 952 0101 who will be able to advise you.
