'Local legend' Sue loves providing friendly service at Asda South Woodham Ferrers
Our much-loved bakery colleague Sue Wilgress has been providing friendly service at our South Woodham Ferrers store for 35 years.
Sue’s loved by customers and colleagues alike for the way she’ll always go out of her way to help.
One of her regular customers, Myra Hammond, says Sue’s a real star.
She said: "She's a local legend – an absolute star. She'll help you however she can. She’ll go and look for whatever you need if you can't find it – I think she's brilliant."
Bakery section leader Lucy Bradley, pictured here on the left with Sue, says everyone who works with Sue is full of admiration for her.
Lucy said: “With Sue here the world is a better place.
"I'm proud to have been here for 14 years, but for Sue to have been here for 35 years is incredible.
"I'm 35 and to think she's been here for as long as I've been alive is amazing. She's very helpful, and very loyal to her customers and her colleagues. She will go above and beyond the call of duty without giving it a second thought.
"She's dropped people's shopping at home if they're elderly and need a little extra help and regularly she picks other colleagues up who need a lift to work – including me.
"We have a lot of regular customers especially in this department who shop here because of Sue, and everyone following her example, working together as a team, keeps them coming back.
"She's modest and doesn't like a fuss but we're allowed to be proud of her and celebrate what she does.”
Sue said: “I don’t like a fuss, but I’m really happy helping people however I can."
Store manager Neil Roots says Sue’s a pleasure to work with.
He said: “Sue’s amazing and has given this store 35 years of great service. She always gives 100% and it’s wonderful having colleagues like her in the store.
"We have a lot of colleagues who have given 10, 15 or 20 years' service so there's a real family feel about the store that you just don't get elsewhere. It's a close-knit store and people do like coming to see people they know and who are interested in them.”
