I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely lady called Marie who, after her own experience of losing her beautiful daughter Emeleia May in 2018, has focused on improving the neonatal accommodation facilities for other parents at Birmingham Women's Hospital.
Marie and her husband were able to use the parents' accommodation at Birmingham Women's Hospital, where they stayed for 13 days so that they were close to their daughter rather than having to travel, as they live a great distance from our specialist hospital.
Since their stay the hospital has created four suites for families to use so they can be close to their babies at the toughest of times. Marie contacted me regarding making the suites a little more homely, with sheets and duvet covers. I thought a couple of small ornaments would improve the feel of the rooms.
Marie has been an advocate for Birmingham Women's Hospital, raising over £7,000 to create a private garden for families to create memories and to reflect on their times with their little ones.
