Well done to our security colleague Tom Downes from our Blyth store who had his beard shaved off for the first time in 20 years for our Tickled Pink campaign, which raises money and awareness for Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel.
Forty-five-year-old Tom, who's worked at the store for 20 years, said: "Our community champion Diane was looking for volunteers to be Tickled Pink heroes and at first I jokingly said 'all you can have of me is my beard' and she said 'yes please'. I didn’t think anyone would sponsor me, but I have been shocked at all the support from my family and colleagues who have been fantastic. All the money hasn’t been counted yet, but we think with the £300 from the Asda Foundation, it will be about £800. I am still finding it strange with no beard, but no doubt it will grow back and I am just over the moon to help Tickled Pink."
Diane, who arranged for local barber Davy Orr to come in to shave Tom's beard, said: "Well done Tom, we are all so very proud of you."
