Ahead of the 75th anniversary of VE Day, our Lower Earley store's community champion Natalie has shared this wonderful photo of her grandmother Joyce dancing at a street party in Reading to mark the end of the Second World War.
Joyce is 94 now and is a great-grandmother of 18. Her husband Leonard was a rear gunner in the war. She has a big family connection to the store – as well as Natalie, Joyce's daughter Alison and grandson Matthew work there too. Natalie said: "I know it's difficult times at the moment, but let's hope everyone can have as much fun as she had. Colleagues will be dressing in red, white and blue to mark the day and there will be snacks all day for colleagues in our canteen – with social distancing of course. We put the photo of my grandmother on our VE Day board in store as we just though it was a lovely joyful picture. You can see how happy everyone looks. My grandmother would have been 19 at the time. Alison has worked here for 30 years and my cousin Matt has been here for 17 years. It's nice that there are three of us working here; It's a nice family link."
