It was lovely to see Pat, Ann and Richard at Shirley Community Centre where I presented them with an Asda Foundation Spaces and Places grant for £5,000.
Despite the heat they, and other volunteers from Shirley Community Association, have been working hard to update a community space within the centre. The large room has already had a fresh coat of paint and the worn, outdated carpet tiles are being replaced with a modern laminate floor, which much more practical for this multi-purpose communal area. Next will be a new kitchen servery, which I look forward to seeing completed later in the year. This renovation has been made possible by lots of hard work and time by volunteers. The Asda Foundation Spaces and Places grants which range from £5,000 to £25,000 go towards transforming community spaces to bring people together and combat social isolation.
