Judges at the Global Cheese Awards name Asda as Retailer of the Year

We've beaten competition from all the other British supermarkets to be named Retailer of the Year at the Global Cheese Awards – the cheese industry's equivalent of the Oscars.

It's the second time in a row we won the prestigious award. We picked up 12 gold medals for cheeses including this delicious Extra Special Burrata Mozzarella and won seven silver and five bronze awards for our cheese, as well as a further eight medals for our butter, natural yogurt, fruit yogurt and double cream.

Our success follows a number of wins at other recent cheese awards, including The Grocer Own Label Food & Drink Awards, Great Taste Awards, International Cheese Awards Nantwich and the Great Yorkshire Show.

Joanne Miller from our Cheese team says tastes in cheese have really developed over the last few years.

She said: "Many people are looking for something a bit different to try, so alongside consistently popular cheeses like Cheddar, Brie and Stilton we're launching more Extra Special cheeses at Asda to help people find something new."

Our Cheese team are always looking to keep developing the cheese range and go on inspiration trips around the world to find exciting new flavours.

Joanne said: "The inspiration for this year's cheese was trips to Paris, Barcelona and Bologna. We looked at burrata, the buffalo mozzarellas and torta de gorgonzola which we’re launching soon. It has layers of gorgonzola intertwined with mascarpone – it's almost like a cake of cheese. The Burrata's proving really popular. It's an outer shell of mozzarella with an oozing centre of thickened cream in the middle, giving the cheese a delicious buttery flavour.

"It's great to see all the work that goes into improving our range is being recognised, and we're over the moon that we've won Global Cheese Retailer of the Year at these awards for the second year in a row."

All the cheeses that won awards will feature the winning logos on their packaging for the next 12 months – look out for them in store soon.
