Our Antrim store's community champion Barbara Logan surprised a local youth community group with a £5,000 donation from the Asda Foundation.
She presented the cheque to Sharon Brash from Rathenraw Youth Scheme as she was helping at the annual Christmas dinner the group hosts for older residents in the Antrim area.
Rathenraw Youth Scheme provides various activities for children and young adults in the area, and the money will go towards more educational programmes for them.
Sharon said: "It was a complete shock when Barbara presented us with the cheque – I was speechless! What an amazing early Christmas present – we can hardly believe it.
"It’s going to make such a difference to us – we will be able to offer more educational programmes for the young people, which are so important for development. It also means we can run intergenerational groups, which teach the importance of acceptance and inclusion in society.
"A huge thank you to Barbara for her continuing support and of course to the Asda Foundation!”
Barbara said: "It was a real honour to present the surprise donation. It is a fantastic organisation and I have loved working with them over the years – the team are such an inspiration.
"I always look forward to the annual dinner and it really was so special to be able to top the day off with a special surprise."
