Home shopping delivery driver Declan shares stunning photos of his route
Check out these stunning scenic photos taken by our home shopping colleague Declan Curry on his route delivering to customers in rural Northern Ireland.
He often calls on elderly customers who are unable to reach the Portadown store where he's based – and takes photos of the dramatic scenery between deliveries.
Declan, pictured above, started the role last August and shares his beautiful pictures of everything from snowy roads to sunny mountain landscapes with colleagues.
He said: "You get to see some amazing sights while driving around the country – you go down roads you didn't even know existed and you see views you never would have seen.
"When I first started this job I thought it was just a delivery job, but I very quickly found that there are a lot of customers who are highly dependent on the service we provide.
"I was surprised at the number of people that can't physically get out of the house to come to the store. Something that a lot of us take for granted they can't do.
"Some older customers can't walk very far before getting tired and others have disabilities that stop them getting out of the house. It's an essential service for them, but amazing for me to work in such a beautiful place."
Declan has a degree in creative imaging and a diploma in photography. His route covers the Mourne Mountains through to the coast at Kilkeel and Newcastle, as well as Newry, Downpatrick and Dromore.
He said: "This job's great for me, as it presents some great opportunities between deliveries to take some photos.
"I try to take at least one photo every shift to share with my colleagues in the store who don't get the opportunity to see the fantastic scenery.
"I upload them to a colleague Facebook group we have. I've had lots of positive comments, which is great; every photographer likes to hear that their photos are being enjoyed by someone else."
General store manager Simon Arlow said: "Declan and all of our colleagues in the home shopping delivery team provide an absolutely first-class service to our customers.
"The recent very bad weather hasn't stopped our team – these guys always find a way. They do an amazing job and I couldn't ask any more of them.
"In very challenging conditions they have gone above and beyond to ensure this key service to some of our most rural customers is maintained."
The store's admin and security manager Jonathan Nirza is one of the colleagues who loves seeing Declan's photos.
"Declan's photos are fantastic," said Jonathan. "I do a wee bit of photography myself and can really appreciate them; he gets the angle, framing and exposure just right and we all enjoy seeing them."
