Our quirky Christmas home range is already a hit on social media this year. George Home designer Sian Kerrigan blogs about the range and how it's bringing a bit of fun to homes this festive season...
Christmas is always on our minds! We love it because it gives us the chance to get across our George personality.
As with all new George Home ranges, we kick off the design process by sitting down as a team to go through upcoming trends. This gives us inspiration around designs and any potential quirky characters that George has become renowned for.
As these designs tend to go across quite a lot of our products, I'll take some of the prints that the team has created and adapt them for bedding, dining and anywhere else that they feel relevant and that customers will love.
For Christmas we’ve adapted our designs so we have characters that work across mugs, teapots, egg cups and cookie jars – as well as bedding and decorations.
Our inspiration for the range comes from trend books and we get out and about to places like New York – they just do Christmas so well over there so it's a really good starting point for us. We're going back over there in December this year to start planning for 2019. We're also looking to visit places like Iceland and Scandinavia for inspiration this time around too. Some of the team are even in China at the moment finalising details for Christmas 2019!
One of our favourite trends this year is Nordic, think traditional reds and oranges which are lovely and snuggly. The trend includes a few new characters that we love too – Santa, Mrs Claus, elves and reindeers. For bedding we've got lots of checked sets on brushed cotton offering some cosy luxury to customers. It's such a lovely trend – very welcoming and homely. And it includes some great quirky items!
It's always nice to get customers' feedback, and people are loving the Christmas novelty product range this year! I think it's because it's just a little bit of extra fun, which people are really ready for when it comes to this time of year. Here are some of my favourite pictures which have been shared by customers so far:

Another of our trends this year is Electric Sky which is inspired by the galaxy and the stars – and we took it a little bit further by bringing in our spaceman character, as well as some quirky cats, pugs and unicorns that really get over the George personality.
I personally love the mugs – I think they're great! There are so many different ones to choose – like our snowman, reindeer, penguin and Santa and Mrs Claus. It's a really lovely collection and there are lots of items that go well with them as well – like our gingerbread house cookie jar and reindeer butter dish. I also love this cute Mrs Claus tea for one set!
We always keep an eye on what people are saying online. The reindeer mug in particular has been super popular! It's nice to see that people are co-ordinating the range too with items from previous years – our trends do tend to evolve so it's lovely to see that people are extending their collections each year with the new pieces we release.
Next Christmas we're looking to evolve our Electric Sky trend to include some softer tones, with lots more pinks and pastel colours – it's very sophisticated but we've still got that magical element to it. We're also looking to bring even more animals into the Nordic trend as well, so I'm already looking forward to that!
