Social club hosts special Christmas party with help from Asda Falmouth
Our Falmouth store's community champion Lisa Kirkpatrick organised a grant from the Asda Foundation so that Constantine Social Club could host its traditional Christmas lunch for local senior citizens.
The £500 grant helped to pay for a three-course festive meal with all the trimmings, which Lisa helped volunteers ledby Cy Prynn to prepare and serve for the guests.
The club's chairman Dick Just said: "Without this donation from Asda and the support of the volunteers, it is unlikely that we would have been able to run this lunch this year.
"We do hope we can continue this tradition and bring our senior community members together every year."
Around 40 guests tucked into roast turkey or beef dinners with a selection of desserts including homemade pavlova, trifle or Christmas pudding.
One of the volunteers, Donna, told Lisa how much she enjoyed the experience and that it was a pleasure to see so many come together and have fun. Some of the people dining, including one affectionately known as ‘Grandad’ live alone in the village.
Lisa said: "It was a wonderful afternoon. Many of the guests are isolated and they had a fantastic time.
"One of the guests told me, 'I cook from scratch every day for myself but it’s lovely to come here and be cooked for and enjoy the company with it – this opportunity means so much to all of us.'"
