Happy Valentine's Day to the couples who fell in love working at Asda

February 13, 2019 12:38 PM

We love hearing about colleagues who met and fell in love working at Asda – like Kate and Brian MacPherson from our Dundee West store.

The couple have been happily married for 14 years and, as they've both worked at three different Dundee stores – West, Milton and Kirkton – lots of colleagues went to their wedding at Dundee Registrars Office in October 2005.

Kate said: "We've known each other for years working in the various stores. We'd both been married before, then separated, then one day in April 2005 Brian asked me out to go to the local pub for a drink.

"I knew straight away he was the right man for me and we got married five months after getting together. He's very romantic and sends flowers to the store every Valentine's Day.

"Fourteen years down the line we're just as happy as we were on our wedding day."

Kate's daughter Gillian, granddaughter Caitlin and grandson Callum also work at the store.

The store's community champion Janie Cochrane said: "Kate and Brian are a wonderful couple – absolutely amazing. You should see the flowers that Brian sends here for Kate, they're lovely.

"There's a real family atmosphere at this store, and everyone is very close. It's a lovely place to work, and Kate and Brian are an important part of our Asda family."

There are six Asda couples who found love working at our Tonypandy store.

Karen Sheppard met her partner Keith L'Homme in store and said: "We've been together for just under a year so I'm really looking forward to our first Valentine's Day together. Hopefully he'll have something romantic planned!

"It's quite funny when you think how many people met their other halves in the store, but it's lovely and we all enjoy working here. Everyone is very friendly."

The other couples from the store are Kelsey Jones and Anthony Halling, Keiron Hewitt and Ffion Edmunds, Margaret Ellis and Ronnie King and Meaghan Elliott and Jason Lee and Christine and Arthur James.

The store's community champion Karen Thomas said: "Romance really does blossom in this store! Tonypandy is quite a small place so everyone knows everyone which I think is really nice.

"We're hoping that some of the couples who aren't yet married will be setting a date then we can all be bridesmaids!"

It's a similar story at our Enniskillen store where three Asda couples are celebrating Valetine's Day.

Glen and Michelle Howard tied the knot two months ago, Simon and Marie Collings have been married for eight years and Jim and Marina Nixon will be celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary this year.

Store manager Steven Henry said: "On the most romantic day of the year, what better way to celebrate than with our colleagues who have found love working in Asda! We wish them the very best and hope they share many more happy years together."
