Our much-loved colleague Betty celebrates 46 years of friendly service at Asda Caerphilly

May 07, 2019 01:49 PM

Everyone at our Caerphilly store loves our wonderful colleague Betty Samuel, whose friendly customer service has been putting smiles on faces at the checkouts for the last 46 years!

Betty was presented with flowers to mark her amazing long service milestone, which began on April 27 1973 – 17 years before the store became an Asda in 1990.

Betty, who's 78, worked at the store with her husband Elwyn until he retired, and her son Barry works there too.

She said: "All the staff are lovely, all of the customers know me too, and it's lovely working here. They got me a bouquet of flowers for my anniversary which was really nice, and they made an announcement about it over the tannoy too. All of the customers were waving at me!"

The store's people trading manager John Roberts said: "Betty is a much-loved colleague – she's almost part of the furniture here!

"It was a pleasure for us to organise flowers and a tannoy announcement to recognise the time she's spent here and how much she's given to the store."

Service section leader Kirsty Smith said: "I've worked with Betty for eight years; she loves working here, loves serving the customers and generally being a member of our little community here. She's really popular with everyone."
