Our new donuts from Glasgow baker McGhee's are Extra Special!

June 26, 2019 02:54 PM

We've added American-style donuts made by McGhee's Family Bakery in Glasgow to our Extra Special range.

The decadent donuts, which come in Salted Caramel, Raspberry and White Chocolate and Chocolate Indulgence flavours, are available in 579 of our stores across Scotland, England and Wales. It’s the first time we have sold donuts in our Extra Special range.

The hand-finished, hand-filled and hand-decorated ball donuts are £1.50 for a box of two.

Heather Turnbull, Asda’s regional buying manager for Scotland, said: "We are thrilled to launch our new Extra Special donuts which taste as good as they look – and we know our customers will love them.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that the donuts are being produced here in Scotland, by an award-winning bakery, and will be enjoyed by customers up and down the UK because they are listed nationally.

"This is testament to the quality and we are really excited to see how they perform in stores with a premium quality American-style donut now available at Asda’s famously low prices.”

The new donuts were developed with help from bakery consultant Mich Turner MBE, an ambassador for the Scottish Baker’s Association.

He said: "I am delighted to assist both McGhee’s and Asda to bring these hand-crafted, extra special doughnuts to the market as an affordable treat.”

Gordon McGhee, managing director of McGhee’s, said "We are excited to combine our hand craft skills and unrivalled baking heritage to create these extra special donuts exclusively for Asda."

McGhee's was founded in Maryhill in 1936 by Dugald McGhee and grew by servicing the local shops and market with a range of freshly baked morning rolls, tea-bread & savoury products.
