We’ve teamed up with Warburtons to launch a new initiative to increase the amount of fresh bakery products donated to charities through our Asda Fight Hunger Create Change programme.
Look out for the ”You Buy One We Give One" message on a selection of Warburtons products in more than 400 of our stores. For every participating Warburtons product you buy in store or online an equivalent product will be given to our partners FareShare to distribute to foodbanks, homeless shelters, children's clubs and more.
That'll mean FareShare will be able to provide more than a million extra bakery items in the coming months. It's good timing as we know there's a bigger need for food donations over the summer as struggling families have to manage without their children's free school meals.
"You Buy One We Give One" is a project we've been working on for the past six months and, although it's been challenging, everybody has worked hard to make it happen because we know it's the right thing to do. If this trial is successful we hope to do similar things with other suppliers in future.
We know our customers are already incredibly generous with their donations through foodbank collections in store. This is just another way for customers to get involved – and by working with our suppliers and being able to donate food directly through FareShare even more people can be helped.
The Warburtons products in the promotion are:
2pk Giant Crumpets
5pk Plain Bagels
5pk Cinnamon & Raisin Bagels
4pk Sourdough Batch Rolls
4pk Brioche Burger Buns
800g Farmhouse
800g Thorough Bread
"You Buy One We Give One" is part of our wider Fight Hunger Create Change programme which is a three-year partnership between Asda, the Trussell Trust and FareShare.
Fight Hunger Create Change will enable FareShare to double their capacity, meaning more food can reach those in need, while also tackling the root causes of poverty. Together we aim to help give one million people the food and support they need to improve the situation they are in.
