Ditch the plastic and use a reusable water bottle

July 01, 2019 12:01 PM

You can now get a free water refill in any of our Asda cafés

We know our customers are concerned about plastic pollution and are trying to reduce the amount of plastic they use each day. One of the ways they’re doing this is by using reusable water bottles instead of buying bottled water.

And we’ve seen an increase in demand for reusable water bottles as customers are now becoming more conscious about single-use plastic.

That's why we were delighted to partner with City to Sea to make it easier for people to find places to refill their water bottles for free – including our own Asda cafes.

City to Sea are a non-profit environmental organisation dedicated to preventing marine plastic pollution at source. As part of their “Refill” campaign they’ve developed an app to help people find water stations nearby where they can get free refills without being embarrassed to ask – and without having to purchase anything.

Not all of our store cafés have water fountains – so as part of our collaboration with City to Sea we introduced a new process for café colleagues to ensure they can refill customers’ own water bottles without compromising health and safety standards.

There are now more than 20,000 water stations listed on the Refill app and we're urging other businesses to get involved and "put their tap on the map!"

You can save money too by buying a reusable water bottle – this one from George costs just £3.50. And we’ve given reusable water bottles to all our colleagues at Asda house too.

To find your nearest Refill water station, download the Refill app from Google Play or Apple store for free – more info here.
