Jo braves the shave to support cancer centre that treated her husband

July 04, 2019 03:57 PM

Our Liscard store's wonderful community champion Jo Francis had her lovely locks shaved off to raise money for a cancer charity that cared for her husband Gareth.

Jo braved the shave in front of shoppers and colleagues at the store to help the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre where Gareth was treated for testicular cancer 18 months ago.

Gareth, who's now had the all-clear, joined in too – he had a full body wax while Jo had her hair shaved. The couple have so far raised more than £1,139.

Jo also donated her hair – which was 17 inches long – to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes real-hair wigs for children who have to undergo cancer treatment.

She said they wanted to give back something to the "wonderful" cancer centre which had "touched many families in tough times".

Jo said: "The shave itself only took about 15 minutes. It was the preparation that took longer as I was donating my hair to the Little Princess Trust. It took about two hours for Gareth's body wax. I think it was pretty painful, but he was so brave."

And the verdict on her new look?

"I love it! I think I am quite lucky that the style suits me," said Jo. "I've had quite a lot of compliments from people."

Helen-Louise Sestan-Burton, the community champion at our nearby Bromborough store, said Jo was a "legend and a true inspiration."

Jo thanked everyone who supported them especially her former colleague, Helen Pendleton, who shaved Jo's hair, and Dawn Price and Georgia Smith who did the waxing.
