Britain's oldest identical twins love their friendly welcome at Asda Great Bridge
Lil Cox and Doris Hobday – Britain’s oldest identical twins – love doing their weekly shop at our Great Bridge store in Tipton, and our colleagues there say "they are the loveliest ladies you will ever meet".
The 95-year-old sisters say they enjoy chatting to everyone as they go round the store, and always look forward to the highlight at the end – a hot chocolate and a bacon butty in the cafe.
Lil said: “Everyone is so very nice at Asda. We love coming here.”
The 95-year-old sisters – who live next door to each other – have been calling in every Tuesday for the last ten years for their groceries and know they'll always get a warm welcome.
Ex-factory worker Lil – who has 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren – said: "We have a really nice time each week and the staff at Asda are lovely.
"We do chat to them as we're going round doing our shopping – though we don't want to take up too much of their time!
"What we really love is the hot chocolate at the end of the shop ... and the bacon butties. They are lovely!"
Doris agreed. "The hot chocolate is lovely. It makes our day," she said. "The food here is always nice and fresh and that's why we come."
The twins are really well known in the store for their cheeky sense of humour – with Doris quipping that "lots of love and Guinness" was the secret to a long life! Lil however prefers lemonade to the stronger stuff!
Our store's cafe manager Emily Mills said the twins were "real characters" and a pleasure to have around.
She said: "I don't think there is one member of staff here that doesn't know Doris and Lil. They are like fixtures and fittings here. They are the loveliest ladies you will ever meet.
"They have a great sense of humour too – they are incredible. When they said to me that they were 95 I said 'behave yourself' – I couldn't believe it.
"They are very independent and do all their own shopping, but we are always on hand if they need help. They bring their own shopping trollies with them each week."
"When we see then paying at the tills we get their hot chocolate ready so they won't have to wait when they get here."
The store's community champion Parv Basi said "It's so lovely to see the sisters every week - chatting away to colleagues while shopping. Everyone loves them here. They are real characters and have such a cheeky sense of humour."
Lil's daughter Viv Clarke says the twins have nothing but praise for the team at Asda. She said: "They just love shopping there - they won't go anywhere else. They have been going there once a week for years. All the staff in the knows them and they know them, that's the main thing. The staff all love them."
Doris and Lil have become local celebrities since they recently became Britain's oldest identical twins and celebrated their birthday by launching their own Facebook page, which already has more than 1,700 followers.
Viv's daughter Kerry set up the Tipton Twins Facebook page for Doris and Lil and said the response had been "incredible".
Their great sense of humour and positive outlook on life they've been sharing on their Facebook page has been making headlines – here they are calling in at Asda to pick up a copy of The Mirror featuring a story about them:
