Asda Innovation Awards celebrate new products loved by our customers

We're proud to have hosted the second Asda Innovations Awards – celebrating a selection of customers' favourite new products available at our stores.

Hundreds of products were nominated by Asda customers and we received over 90,000 votes during the summer. After a rigorous process by an independent penel of judges, the list was whittled down to winners across the categories of Baby & Toddler, Beers, Wines & Spirits, Chilled Food, Drinks, Food Cupboard, Fresh & Frozen Food, Health & Beauty, Laundry & Household, Own Brand Grocery, Own Brand Fresh, Chilled & Frozen, Own Brand Household & Toiletries, Treats & Snacks and Pet.

The overall winner at the awards evening was the Fabulously Free From Chocolate and Vanilla Cheesecakes by Gü. The vegan-friendly cheesecake is made of layers of chocolate coconut ganache and coconut cream on a crumbly gluten-free base. Judges unanimously praised the taste, noting how it tasted as good as other products in the Gü range. They said it "cleverly tapped into a gap in the market" and "was truly unique to the category and well executed".

Products from top brands including WK Kellogg, Thatchers, Innocent and Simple won awards – as well as some of our own products like our Unicorn Ice Cream, which came out on top in the Own Brand Fresh, Chilled & Frozen catgeory. It's been a real hit with customers since we launched it earlier this year. When we posted about it on Facebook we received thousands of comments from people who couldn't wait to try it – or people who had already tried it and loved it!

Judges at the Innovation Awards commended the ice cream for the list of ingredients, admitting they were impressed at the use of vegetables extracts like beetroot and sweet potato in place of artificial colourings. They said it's "in-keeping with the unicorn trend within the market but impressively healthy and the natural ingredients list was a highlight".

This fun bake in the box Belgian Chocolate & Salted Caramel Brownie Kit makes it simple to rustle of a homemade treat. Customer Trudy posted on Instagram saying: "The easiest baking I’ve ever done! If you want to look like you know what you're doing, try one of these boxes".
