A T-shirt designed by Megan Grinham, a graduate from Norwich University of the Arts, has been chosen by our George team and the BBC Children in Need team as the official T-shirt of BBC Children in Need 2019. Here Estella Arroyo, Senior Design Manager at George, blogs about the competition and supporting new talent.

We are so excited and proud to be the home of the official BBC Children in Need T-shirt!

In previous years the official T-shirt has been designed by big fashion names like Julien Macdonald and Henry Holland, so to be able to put the opportunity out to new and upcoming talent is fantastic.

Through our partnership with Graduate Fashion Foundation we invited fashion students to create designs for the official T-shirt along with a short synopsis of what Children in Need meant to them. We had a fantastic uptake with some fabulous entries.

Megan’s submission really stood out from the beginning. It’s simplistic in its design with a lot of thinking behind it which really captures the 'Get Together' campaign of BBC Children in Need 2019. We chose it as the winner because her design is instantly recognisable as Pudsey Bear, appealing to all ages and it really sums up BBC Children in Need and all the amazing work they do.

We went along to surprise her at Norwich University of the Arts to share the good news in person – and brought Pudsey Bear along too. As you can see Megan was very excited!

Megan’s T-shirt design featured at the Graduate Fashion Week Gala Show in June – which was also the first time Pudsey Bear has ever been seen on the catwalk!

Megan has attended a BBC Children in Need celebrity photoshoot and will be at the Appeal show on November 15th. She also had a two-week paid internship with us to help get her design ready for production. This included working closely with the Children in Need team on the words for the final design.

We’ve been a long-term sponsor of Graduate Fashion Foundation since 2011 and it’s something we’re really passionate about. Graduate Fashion Week is the pinnacle of the year for fashion students and a showcase for their talent. We want to be able to tap into this talent and to help people on the next step of their career.

The official BBC Children in Need T-shirt featuring Megan’s design is available in adult and children’s sizes, from £5 to £8 depending on size. There are two coloured backgrounds to choose from – yellow or grey.

As well as the official T-shirt we’ve worked closely with the BBC Children in Need team again on this year’s BBC Children in Need range at Asda. There are T-shirts, onesies, a tie and – this year for the first time – a BBC Children in Need shirt to choose from. When you buy something from the Pudsey collection we’ll make a donation to the charity.

Check out the range online here and in store and show your support for BBC Children in Need!
