An "amazing" charity providing childcare services to families in Antrim has received a donation of £12,890 from the Asda Foundation to enable it to develop its services.

Our Antrim store's community champion Barbara Logan and store manager Robert Ryans presented the cheque to the team from the Family Caring Centre.

Established in Rathenraw in 1985, Family Caring Centre provides training, information, advice and childcare services to families in the area who may be disadvantaged by a number of factors such as deteriorating housing and high unemployment.

Over 250 local families benefit from the range of services provided.

Louise Goodman, centre manager for Family Caring Centre, says the Asda grant will make a big difference to the support it can offer to people who use the service.

She said: "The donation from the Asda Foundation allows us to continue to deliver our life-changing support services, develop the centre further for those in need in our local community, and gives us the opportunity to mark our 35-year anniversary in a building which is fit for purpose.

"We would like to thank Barbara and her colleagues at Asda Antrim for the continued support. It is greatly appreciated, especially at a time when funding is difficult to source."

Barbara, who helped the charity secure the donation, said: "Family Caring Centre makes a real difference to the lives of people living in our local area through the wide range of support services it offers.

"I am so proud that my role as an Asda community champion, with support from the Asda Foundation, enables me to play a role in helping the Family Caring Centre to continue to deliver the amazing work they do for residents in our local area."
