Our new Plant Based range is full of nutritious, healthy meat-free options

January 13, 2020 05:24 PM

The range is aimed at people who want to eat less meat in their diet as well as vegans and vegetarians

We’re very excited about our new Plant Based range which is now in Asda stores and online. It’s our biggest ever own brand vegan range and all the products have been approved by the Vegan Society. There are 51 nutritious ready meals, snacks, pizzas and Food to Go options – with even more planned for later this year.

Veganuary is a big influence on how people are eating this month. Flexitarianism continues to be a big and fast-growing trend and more and more people are choosing to eat less meat for health reasons.

There are loads of healthy nutritious options to choose from and the majority of products in the range carry our “Live better” logo – a new health icon signposting the healthiest choices available. Almost half (40%) of the range has no red traffic lights in the nutritional information. You’ll see some red traffic lights due to the intrinsic nature of some ingredients (like coconut!), but we’ve minimised these where possible.

While most meat-substitutes found in supermarkets are made with soya, we’ve worked with our suppliers to develop first-to-market mushroom-based alternatives including meat-free mince, burgers, sausages and “meatballs” which have a meaty texture and savoury umami taste.

The range is already getting some great feedback on social media from people who’ve tried it. The most popular products include:

Asda Plant Based Meat-Free Burgers

Asda Plant Based Vegan Cauliflower Popcorn

Asda Plant Based Sweet Potato Katsu Curry

Asda Plant Based Vegan Meat-Free Chicken Nuggets and Chicken Bites

Asda Plant Based Meat-Free Sausages

Asda Plant Based No-Zzarella Sticks

Asda Plant Based Duckless Spring Rolls

Here are just some of the things people are saying:

We’d love to know what your favourites are in the range so if you find something you love please tweet us @asda or post a photo on Instagram and tag us. Thanks!
