We’re saying goodbye to the Choco Snaps Crocodile and the Honey Hoops Hippo

January 21, 2020 10:00 AM

From February we’re changing the packaging on some of our popular own brand cereals. Asda nutritionist Beth Fowler explains why.

If you’re a fan of our own brand cereals like Choco Hoops, Rice Snaps and Honey Hoops you’ll be used to seeing fun cartoon animals on the packets. From next month we’re making a few changes which will mean saying goodbye to crocodile, hippo, lion and friends.

The new boxes have been redesigned to feature bolder graphics, bigger product images and clearer nutrition information. We hope this will inspire customers to make healthier choices for their children if they wish making it easier to resist “pester power”.

As well as changing the packaging we’ve also reduced the amount of sugar in the cereals by 26%. We’ve done this gradually over the past five years with lots of consumer testing and feedback to make sure we don’t compromise on taste.

It’s all part of a programme to reduce the amount of sugar across many of our own brand ranges – not just cereals. We’ve been working on this for several years now, even before Public Health England issued new targets for retailers on sugar content.

As a responsible retailer we want to help customers make informed choices and so we’ve introduced a “Live Better” icon on our own brand products to help people spot the healthier options more easily.

The cereal packets that will be changing are:

  • Choco Hoops
  • Choc Balls
  • Rice Snaps
  • Cereal Bars
  • Choco Snaps
  • Cereal Bars
  • Frosted Flakes
  • Rice Snaps
  • Choco Snaps
  • Unicorn Hoops
  • Choco Squares
  • Choco Nut Squares
  • Malted Wheaties
  • Honey Hoops

Look out for the new-look packs in store from February 24th onwards.
