Community champion Debbie is so proud to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
We're delighted to welcome collectors from the Royal British Legion into our stores to support the Poppy Appeal.
It's a cause particularly close to the heart of our Leicester store's community champion Debbie Kenny, who served for ten years in the Women’s Royal Army Corp before joining Asda in 1995.
Debbie is a passionate supporter of the Armed Forces community.
She said: "It makes me so proud to be able to help.
"Joining the Army was probably the best decision I ever made in my life. I learned a trade, travelled the world, and saw places I could never have dreamt of.
"And thinking back to those times and the things that I've done just makes me smile."
As community champion at our store in Fosse Park, Leicester, Debbie works tirelessly to support charities, projects and initiatives that make a real impact for local people, and is known to many customers as the "lady with pink hair".
Every year she helps Poppy Appeal collectors to set up in store and collect donations that help the Royal British Legion continue its vital work.
She said: "As soon as I left the Armed Forces, I joined the Royal British Legion because I knew that if I ever needed anything, they'd be there for me.
Our customers are so generous
"Our customers are so generous and last year in store we raised over £13,000 which is amazing."
"In our community helping ex-forces personnel is high on people's agenda.
"We have big tables set out for the Poppy Appeal and it’s lovely to see people come to the store and be able to get their poppy."
